Kalyn Ponga

I very much doubt he'll play game 1. If NSW win there might be pressure on QLD to make changes, particularly if Morgan is still plonking along. That might be his chance for a utility role, although like cowboyman said I don't know where you hide him in defence.

I think that was more a crack at Danny Levi not being in first grade anytime soon
So where did Ponga being dropped to Levi being in first grade, please explain, what is wrong with facts and truth

OK I'll take it slow. Billy said Pong and Levi worked well together resulting in a few tries scored in the opposed sessions. Billy then said we'll see that happen again. Levi's banished to reserve grade. To see Levi and Ponga work off each other it would require Ponga to also be dropped to reserve grade because Levi isn't destined for first grade in a hurry.

Ponga is no utility and QLD don’t make knee jerk changes like that. If one of Morgan/Hunt/Munster isn’t coming off the bench as the utility (let’s say due to injury), it will likely be Milford.

Going a little left field, even someone like Mbye would offer more versatility than Ponga IMO. He has a tremendous running game and you wouldn’t have to worry about him defending in the line, whether it be in the middle at hooker or on the edges at half/centre.

Going even more left field, if Boyd loses his wing spot to Gagai/Holmes/Oates (which is unlikely), he’s another guy who could fill that role. Can play literally every position from 1-7 and a pinch at 9 (at least in attack) due to his experience and football IQ.

Give the kid a year or two to develop as the last thing we want is another experience like Mullen went through when picked too young for State of Convenience.

They don't make changes because they haven't needed to. Last series I think it was, they went with the classic team of guys who've always done the job in the past, they lost game 1, looking pretty tired after NSW's forward pack ran over them & what do you know, they made instant changes to get some younger, fresher forwards in the side. If Queensland lose badly in the first game, there'll be great temptation to bring in some young blood, though I still think Ponga would be a 50/50. You never know though, Queensland might still just whoop our asses 3-0 & won't need any changes.

QLD were loyal to that same group of players for a long, long time. I believe they were going to ride with them as long as possible. Game 1 last season proved it was no longer possible. They were the old generation and they needed to introduce he new generation of young, hungry Maroons. They’re not one to make knee jerk reactions and I don’t think the mass changes they made post game 1 last year was a knee jerk reaction. I think that was a long time coming as those guys were aging and weren’t even being picked off of form, more so loyalty and been there, done that.

We will still have a crap team as I think Dugan, Ferguson, Woods etc will still be picked.

We have to understand SOO only works when Qld are winning. A run of three or four years Blues wins would kill it with the rednecks.

Ha ha yeah that is definately the reason NSW dont win. The let Qld win in fear of state of origin being cancelled.

Its happened before they were going to stop playing SOO because Qld couldn't beat NSW it was a close thing ...

No surprises Kayln is the cover story of Big League this week. Great effort!

Ferguson maybe. He’s actually in good form, but I’d be ok moving on from him. The question is, who? He’s a right winger. The two guys I’d want in would be Cotric and Add-Carr, both left wingers. So, I could see him getting picked. Unless they go Teddy at fullback and Trbojevic on the wing.

Dugan’s out for 6 weeks now which all but rules him out.

If Woods gets picked, I’ll boycott Origin this year. My trust in Freddy would be gone.

I'm sure Gags had an influence but that article makes it sound like gags single handedly got him over the line.

I don't know how he went to school with Jacob Gagai. Jacob is 3 or 4 years older and has been down here since he was 17.
