Sione Mata'utia re-signs with the Knights

I actually thought Buhrer played well off the bench last night. Nothing special, no highlight plays, but just went about his business and was a positive contributor on the field for us.

Or even James Robberts 17 tackles 3 missed. 119 running metres.
Exact same stats as Sione lol.

Im not saying hes a better player than these two but he doesnt deserve to be ridiculed by you every week. Especially when hes doing a pretty good job.

Stats don't matter, unless they suit your narrative, in which case they do.
Also, the more missed tackles the better.

Everyone's definition of a good job is different I'd wager.

On $600k he does and unlike the other 2 his never won a team a game.

So how are we defending Lamb this week, was mia again and has had more game time then Watson, does he have even a line break assist yet?

I still think Brown sees Sione as a back rower he's only playing him there this year because A) we are very very short in the centres and B) We are very deep in the back row.

Sione is the most polarising player we've had in recent times, I am a fan but I also am not sure where he fits in next season. Having back rowers on the bench is pretty useless these days with the limited interchanges especially if we're going to play two hookers, so even if Sione were to take Burher's spot on the bench how many minutes will he play???

I actually always thought he'd end up being a good middle forward once he got older, playing as a 13 who has the athleticism to roam wide and help 'double up' on short side plays. But his worries with concussion due to his poor tackling technique make that a risky ploy.

If he didn't have the concussion issues I think lock or even off the bench instead of Heighno would suit him best and help him play to his strengths and won't expose him to his weaknesses. In defence his decision making is his weakness so defending in the middle you just tackle what ever comes your way, plus he is more mobile so his lateral movement in defence is a strength compared to the twins and Barnett who get 'stuck in the mud'.

In attack he will have his role simplified and will be able to roam the field and just get the ball and run over the top of people, for a lot of players like Sione who dominated juniors but struggled in seniors I believe the issue is having to play in a more structured system. Although the junior rep sides still have structures in place, it goes to the next level in NRL and I feel Sione especially in the centres doesn't know how to inject himself into the game or is too eager and gets caught pushing up on his inside runner too much instead of holding the right position and waiting for the ball. At 13 he will be to simplify his game and I feel we would get the best out of him, the concussion issue being the big sticking point.

Also I have a feeling his fitness isn't up to scratch either, you make more mistakes as you get fatigued and I'd be willing to bet Sione makes more miss tackles and errors towards the back ends of halves.

Your a crack up lol.
Love it!!

Fyi Lamb put fitz into a nice hole on Sat night, great short ball.

As i said for Watson,as i si for Ponga, and ill say it for Lamb
They are kids still learning, give them time
Now Sione has played 50 games and has had a halo over him for 3yrs, this week he was great and if he builds on that he will be fine, D needs a lot of work though we need to factor in that even though he has played 50 nrl games its been in 5 positions where he has had to adapt time and again.

You know ill rip him a new one if he deserves it though this week a pat on the back is warranted for Sione.

The things he does well say middle forward to me as well, unfortunately wrong body shape.

I see where you're coming from But I don't think it would be an issue, he'd be like a 'throw back' to the 90's type lock playing roaming role ( If I were coaching the side lol). Not sure if Browny would want him in that role but that's how I would play him.

As I said the concussion thing is the biggest issue for me

Normally agree with you 88. Normally.

Surprised the ESL are not pounding on Sione's door. The advantage of being an Islander is huge with the ESL import rule. Plus the grounds are much softer than here which would be a plus.

Sione deserves success and the big bickies, but is going to struggle in the NRL with his concussion problems.

Just re-read this one lol. When Sione puts on a burst of speed and runs straight around the centre and winger down the sideline I'll agree. But that is NEVER going to happen. Sione does a job, he does it competently.

I remember someone having a crack saying "well, how'd you go tackling sione". I reckon it would hurt but I might be some chance seeing as he runs straight at you 10 times out of 10. I wouldn't get a hand on someone with Roberts' pace or Gagai's footwork.

I think its more his poor defence, no step, no ball skills and well no anything aside from running hard.

If he was half as rated by anyone else as he is on here, concussion or not there'd atleast be offers for him, but funnily enough the silence is deafening.
