Official: Jack Cogger signs with the Bulldogs

if he wants out then let him go! no point having someone at the club if they dont want to be here. If he is happy to stay and play out the year then great!

There's no reason that our reserve lineup shouldn't be strong favorites for a premiership this season.

The advantage of keeping Cogger on the books as cover for injuries is only one aspect, having him guide the team around and hopefully lead them to a premiership is s bigger positive.
The confidence that a strong season will give the reserve players is invaluable.

Unless a young guy like Johns really steps up early in the season and pushes for a start we'd be mad to let Cogger go.

Not to mention we've half pre paid him.

That brings up the point about whether a club should be able to recoup any front-ended payments if a player breaks contract.

Theoretically, should he leave early, the Doggies should be responsible for covering the upfront payment and returning it to the Knights.
The Doggies would then factor in Cogger's pre-payment and deduct that from what they pay him for his 2018 contract.

That way neither club is disadvantaged and the player jumping ship doesn't get paid twice.

if he's going to get a crack at first grade, it's the right thing to do to let him go imo. His heart won't be in it playing reserves here so just let him go.

The problem with this is that it draws the crabs. The next time we require a player swap deal under similar circumstances, we would have already shown our cards

Id say that in any future dealings, player managers and opposition clubs will be taking us very seriously. And tbh, it needed to be done to set a standard of operation for this new club admin, to wipe clean the weak and failed history of the clubs recent past

Its hard to see a player of quality first grade standard being released by the dogs in a deal involving a as yet fully tried half back this close to season start.
Can't realistically see a deal being done, if it is done it would be with a player of less potential than Cogger.

Not sure why the Knights would help the Bulldogs out after their player agent mate who represented the Mata'utia bros conned the Knights into giving the bros overs to re-sign them.

um no coggers needs are second to our own and if we have 2 injuries we're without a recognised half in first grade.

hodko is as good as gone.

The way I see it is if Cogger's the first choice 7 for the Bulldogs in 18 there in trouble. Promising maybe but 8 games for the trispooners without setting the World on fire hardly inspires confidence. Junior form means SFA.

"and other myths" would be a good book title.
Chanel recently said he could make more money working in the mines and playing for Cessnock than he was getting at the Knights, so I assume starting wages in the mines are about a million a year, which is what many seem to think Chanel was getting.

How do you work that out Bill? I think everyone assumed Sione was on $600k and his brothers on the remaining $300-$400k between them?
It seemed like a year people on this forum were arguing black and blue that we had no salary cap space to spend, despite cutting millions worth of players, because all the money had gone into upgrades for the Mata'utia brothers.
I got sick of pointing out how silly that supposition was in the end, and it just became "accepted wisdom" that the brothers were getting a fortune.

Youre forgetting that when the boys were resigned Pete was at another club

So even if you're right, it means Pat and Chanel were resigned on 150-200k each, provided Sione was on 500-600k

They all got about what they were worth.
All the whining about how they were crippling our team because they were overpaid has been blasted out of the water now that we know how much salary cap we didn't spend.
The club decided they were better off not spending money when we weren't going to do much better - simple as that.
