Your team for 2018

I think you'll find the general consensus believed back then all year up until the prelim that the GF would've been Parra v St George. Neither of those teams ended up making it.

I meant more the matchup like whoever wins that game, wins the GF. And that was proven correct. Of course 1st vs 2nd would be the expected GF. Cause they were the best teams during the regular season.
But the Tigers were in form rolling through their finals games as well.

It seems the more we discuss our team for 2018 the more criticism is brought up about our new recruits, both youth and experienced. In different threads we have had doubts raised on everyone now that the excitement of the signings has passed.
Ponga is young and inexperienced, Moga is injury prone journey man, Watson is unproven and better as a utility, Pearce is a exception, Guerra is not the player we thought and let go by easts cause his game isn't what it was, Lillyman is passed his best and from a non performing club, Esee Esee is also injury prone and why if he is any good did Bennet let him go, Heighinton is on the down hill slide and won't make 1sts.
But we are all very happy with our signings and looking forward to a very successful 2018 and beyond.
(I won't even comment on our players from 2017 local or otherwise)

Depth is what we have gained.
We have 40 listed in the squad, and I believe 25 or 30 are firstgrade standard.
Last year we spent maybe as little as half our salary cap after losing Mullo etc, and we had maybe 15 firstgrade standard players if all were fit (which almost never happened).
By the end of the season I expect we will have a mix of last year's players and the new signings, and they should be playing at a good standard.

With all the negativity that abounds here Frank, what do you expect? Some push the local Newie barrow, some think Cogger is the go to guy when he is small and his defence is in question, others are real haters. It is time to ignore these guys and just wait for the season to begin. For mine Browny and Mooney have done an excellent job.

I'm with you Member i cant wait I think we have bought well , some young exciting players , a couple of old forwards to play for a year until our young guys are ready for the step up ...
Although I'm not expecting too much as i think it will take most of next season for them to Gel as a team I'm so excited just to see them play i cant wait ...
I don't care if they are locals or not they have the Knights jersey on and that will do me ...IMO we wont see the best out off guys like Watson , Lamb and Ponga and a few others until 2019 but I'm willing to wait ...Another year of 1st grade for Daniel , Jacob , Fitzy and even Levi will bring them closer to theyre best , and if all these guys hit theyre straps in 2019 the other teams better look out ...

Thinking about new signings and losses with comparisons I thought I would throw this at you all, so far we have signed 11 new players and losses are 18 but only counting 16 as Kostjasyn & Mullen didn't play in 2017.
Ese'ese in for Mataora, Griffin for Randell, Guera for Wardle, Heighington for Stockwell, Lillyman for Starling J, Moga for Gagai, Pearce for Feeney, Ponga for Elliott, Watson for Pearsall, Hazard for Bhana and Naden for Pete M. Most are big improvement except possibly Moga, Hazard and Naden.
Other losses - Tupou, Paea, Pauli Pauli, Gagan and Chanel are covered by Hosking, Saulo, Jones, Dennis, Musgrove, Starling T and Johns. We got little out of this 5 and the covering players are all young with potential.
I have lined them up in similar positions with no thought to it being selective.

The most likely 17 for round 1 has;
7 who were Knights this time last year.
4 who were roosters this time last year
2 who were broncos this time last year
1 Warrior
1 shark
1 cowboy
1 storm
Many of them are young guys with little experience.

It really is building a team from scratch. It will be a bit of a miracle if they all gel in round 1 - or before round 10 really.

exactly which is why im not so confident on the top 8 which a lot seem to be. Im expecting/hoping for about 12th this yr then next yr we can aim for top 8

I would be thoroughly disappointed with that result and that should be seen as a failed season. With our squad, we should be pushing for the 8.

coming from wooden spoon 3 yrs in a row to 12 is classed as a fail? Wow!!! Thats a big call really. You cant expect a team who has had 8 changes to their 17 to come out and straight away make the 8!!

On paper this team has the potential to be a top 8 quality side, whether that translates onto the field is anyone’s guess. I’d expect us to be anywhere from 10th-13th. If by some crazy chance we make the top eight come September then we may as well sign Browny and Mooney up for life. The development and combinations will still take some time but no matter if we’ve won 3 consecutive spoons we should be aiming to be a top eight side no matter the circumstances.

You’re acting like it’s the same team. It’s not. Our roster is completely overhauled. If we’re not competitive and pushing for the 8 with this squad, Brown should be on the hot seat. We don’t have a bottom half of the league roster anymore. Granted it could take some time to hit our straps with all the changes, but there’s been a ton of player movement this off season, so we’re not the only team building chemistry and combinations.

Im acting like its the same team? Wrong! Im acting like its a team that is going to take time to learn to play together. That wont happen rd 1. Will be lucky if it happens by mid season.
I mean sure we can scrape into the 8 but im not holding my breath on it. Im expecting about 12th and would consider that a pass. Any thing over that is a bonus really. To say anything outside a top 8 finish is a fail is a massive call given we havent seen how this team plays together yet.
