Official: Jack Cogger signs with the Bulldogs

Sad to see him go but he won't get a start here at the Knights. I hope he goes well

A shame his shot at first grade here was marred by injury, by the time he recovered his spot was taken, and we signed Pearce.

All the best at the dogs.

It's a shame he never got a clear run with injuries to show us how good he can be.
I suppose we can stop worrying about if his pelvis injury means he'll never get his running game back. It's someone else's problem now.

I don't think he'll ever be a world beater. So no real loss imo. I've always viewed his skillset as being similar to a Sam Williams or Chad Townsend. Can look pretty good every so often but is, for the most part, an average FG'r at best

I really don’t see him as a great loss to be honest. I’ve always rated Brock as the better of the two. Pearce, Watson, Lamb all in front of him and even Pythian could slot in at halves.

I still think Pythian is the dark horse for us this year, as far as his place as a project player.

He seems the type of player who is adept and growing and learning deep into his career, just a real quality footballer. Tough and fit too

If his injury doesn't effect him too much I expect him to feature in FG in 2018, ahead of others who are perhaps expected to be there over him

Hopefully this means we step up the chase for lamb to re-sign.

Like others have said Pythian and Johns as a backup and we should be more than right.

Interesting the Dogs haven't dropped the hammer on us trying to get a release.

If only Josh Morris hadn't confirmed he was locked up for this year it could put the pressure/incentive on for a pre-season swap.

Agree Kenny.

Thought he would be a stand out last season and he was good for what ~ the whole 20 minutes? A lot will depend on how good the knee is. A second rebuild can cause problems.

In my opinion, Cogger looked comfortable in the NRL straight away, whereas Lamb was a bit more of a slow burn, Cogger's defence let him down eventually but the limited opportunities he got, his short kicking & short passing game looked to be on point. Don't think he'll be a star, but a very capable first-grader if size doesn't get the better of him eventually.

Big call, he'll be playing his first game after the season has already started, then it could be half a season before he gets back to where he was. I'd love to see him come into contention. Lot of work to be done.

The only way to work out how good Cogs will eventually be is to jump in a time machine and go 10 years forward.
You never know when a young guy will peak.
Lamb and Cogger were probably neck and neck at the start of 2017, but Lamb had a great year where he went ahead in everything from his size to his running ability, while Cogs spent the whole year getting back to where he was before injury.
2018 could be the opposite, with Cogs having a breakout year and Lamb struggling.
10 years from now we might all be saying how did we ever let Cogger go, and I wonder what ever happened to that Lamb bloke, or the exact opposite. It's a lottery.

I've never really seen a better junior halves pairing then lamb/cogger. Those blokes just knew what was going down every play.

The first time I saw Lamb and Cogger in an under 16s trial there was a big debate on the forum about who should do the tactical kicking in firstgrade, and I posted that the best kicker at the club was a kid named Lamb in under 16s. That performance was the best I have seen in under 16s - even better than Sione and Tevita Pangai destroying sides with raw power. To be honest, I was so impressed by Lamb in that game that I didn't even notice Cogger, but in other games that season it became obvious that they complimented each other perfectly.

Didn't the Dogs have to release players recently to be salary cap complient? And now they can afford to buy a starting half? (They've offered him 1st crack in the 7)

Can only laugh.

To be fair they took a pretty big loss in Graham, who's contract was close towards the 1 million mark & Des also publicly stated they weren't letting him go, so in the end they had to take the big sacrifice. That along with a few lower end guys getting released would likely have been enough. The media exaggerates. It's not like Cogger would be on anything too higher than minimum either.

Except Graham and Brenko Lee, all were off contract not released. Dogs were reputedly close to $2million over the cap, but magically thanks to Godfairy Toddy that extra million is just forgotten about.

- Remember how they were expecting the cap to be at least a million + larger and cried about it.

I thought Graham was released because there was a big write up about his contract at the dogs being worth 1 million for this season

Yeah heavily back ended, Dragons being the eternal dumb dumbs no doubt paid full freight as well.

3 years for a player that's looked busted the last 2 is a huge risk and I for 1 was glad when we missed him.
