Slade Griffin announces his retirement

On Fox Sports .............Could Melbourne utility Slade Griffin end up in Newcastle next season?

With Rory Kostjasyn’s career over due to a throat injury, the Knights are in the market for a hooker-lock to replace the former Cowboy.
The Knights will also be without Tyler Randall next season with the utility off to England.

It’s understood the Knights are one of two NRL clubs interested in the 26-year-old although off-contract Bulldog Michael Lichaa and Penrith rake Mitch Rein are the priority targets.

While the Storm are keen for him to stay, Griffin wants to establish himself as a regular first grader, which is difficult at the Storm with Cameron Smith and Brandon Smith ahead of him in the hooking stakes.

A product of the Storm’s NYC system, Griffin made his NRL debut in 2013

Nugget Griffin has only played a handful of games and in 2015 missed most of the season with a knee injury. Has not risen to any great heights, but Browny would be more aware of his skills than anyone.

He did serve a suspension being caught betting on an NRL game but I guess that is something many young players do without getting caught.

Melbourne discards are hardly ever worth buying.
whatever it is they do down there, players are nearly always 20% better in Melbourne than they were before they went there or after they leave.

I'd pass on Griffin, Rein and Lichaa are also pretty meh. Not much in the market in terms of hookers atm

Billy funnily enough when other teams discards go down to Melbourne they seem to get 20% better than ever, they must be doing something right or is everyone else doing something wrong ??

I think the storm are still using Essendon's old system of vitamins, the NRL have not figured it out yet.

Just a quality system. They have all their juniors work labouring jobs for a year so they get a taste of what work is like if they don't give footy 100%. And everyone who goes there says they train harder than anyone else.

Doesn't hurt having two future immortals pulling the strings either.

I watched him also. Was playing at second row and seemed to want to be involved in everything but they kept bypassing him. Looks very enthusiastic and has some great runs. Would love to see him at hooker though.

The Knights look to be favouring Griffin over Rein and Lichaa with talks all but dropping with the other two. We're going to up the ante this week with negotiations.
