Rumour: Knights looking at Maloney

Watson has to out train Lamb to get the number 6 jersey.
Lamb is the guy who was so impressive at training as a no game rookie that Brown decided to start the season with him and move Mullen to hooker - so good luck with that Wato.

Watson is not much more experienced than Lamb, but due to circumstances, he's coming here on a deal close to 500k after being guaranteed a regular halves position. He will 100% be picked over Lamb. He'll only get dropped if he is having a shocking season while Lamb is killing it in reserve grade, if Maloney is signed on for halfback of course, otherwise Watson & Lamb could make a decent halves pairing.

They'll be training for 3 months. I'm told Lamb is a coaches favourite because he only needs to be told once and can pretty much run any play first time. Maybe Watson can do that too, or does other stuff that is impressive, but I think Lamb will hold his own on the training paddock.

Josssh, This is FG ,no one is guaranteed anything, I think you will find he has been offered the opportunity to start in the spine, from there it is up to him to maintain his spot.

Whether his starting opportunity is allocated as a spot in the halves , fullback or Hooker that will be determined after assessment over the Pre season.

Currently it appears as though the best combination in the halves is someone who is calculating and controlled , complimenting the other a dynamic opportunist who knows how this will pan out without the proper sounding board of a comprehensive preseason.

i still don't think we'll get maloney (or cronk for that matter). I'd be happy with a watson & Lamb halves pairing if we got watson.

Whatever happens with Watson, wondering where we will play a half is a good problem to have for a change. Especially if we get Maloney which I can't see happening.

And I'd be happy enough not getting him to be honest, play Watson and Lamb with Cogger as backup. Spend the Maloney money on a decent Prop.

That's what I meant. He's not coming here because Browny said yeah turn up & train well & you might get a spot in the halves. He's coming here because Browny obviously said the position is yours, that's what Watson wanted to leave the Roosters. Once he's here, he can obviously lose it through form, but I think it's his at least for 2018.

1. Kalyn Ponga (19 years old)
6. Connor Watson (21 years old)
7. Brock Lamb (20 years old)
9. Danny Levi (21 years old)

Would have to be the youngest spine in the NRL, which is a lot of pressure for 4 young kids but how exciting will it be watching them play for 3+ years together and seeing what they can become!

If we managed to sign Maloney, which is probably very doubtful, that would make it even more exciting.

Maloney heading to the Hunter?

Just read this on the lurker the second line is interesting

The James Maloney saga continues to drag on but there’s plenty going on behind the scenes.

Maloney is still contracted to the Sharks for 2018 but is hunting more money and I’ve been told he has verbally agreed to a massive two-year deal with Newcastle.

The Warriors have entered the race, pushing Maloney’s price up, but they are too late - the star pivot will either stay at Cronulla or make the move to the Knights.

It all hinges on whether the Sharks can sign the brilliant Cooper Cronk for 2018.

If so, they will let Maloney go. If not, they will insist he sucks it up and sees out his deal with Cronulla.

Cronk is moving to Sydney but is undecided about his plans.

He’s had a host of offers but retirement - and a long-term deal as a commentator at Fox Sports where his fiancee Tara Rushton works - is also a big possibility.

Can't see it happening, Cronk to retire and Maloney to stay. If I was Cronulla forget Cronk up Maloney contract sign him for further 2-3 years.
But will be over the moon if we get him.

Frank Mc - Maloney would be the final piece of the puzzle for us , but like you said Sharks would be crazy not to "top him up" the Roosters didn't and paid a higher price ; although on the grapevine there seems to be a bit of friction over there in the shire.

Smoke and fire, someone is not happy chappy

If we miss out then no biggie, Watson and Lamb will have time to develop into great players. If we get him though then we'll be shooting for a possible top 8 spot.

would be amazing though if he does sign! just need 1 more forward!
