Halves situation

Curious to see what people here think about our halves situation going forward. Hodkinson is still on the books for next season though it looks like his days are done. Obviously we've been actively looking for a marquee half, but in recent weeks Feeney and Lamb have been very good plus we still have Cogger to come back .....

Do we still need a marquee half or are we confident we can mould a good halves partnership with 2 of Lamb, Feeney or Cogger ??

Absolutely 100% need a half. If we're not making Cronk a godfather offer everyone should resign.

I think the tigers have shown you can't just throw a ton of juniors together and expect them to be consistent, you need experience around them. Levi ponga and lamb need that experience.

In reality if Cronk says no you'd be looking at getting Tyrone back, in which case, stick with what we've got a try again for 2019.

Lamb and Cogger are both 2 years away from being good and experienced enough halves to lead a good side around the park.
Feeney is probably close to as good as he will get, and that's just barely firstgrade standard on a good day.
Any of those 3 could be a good partner for a quality half, and it depends on if we signed a 7 or a 6, which one we use.

Our senior half at present is 20 years old and has played 14 games of firstgrade for 1 win I think. He goes brilliantly for a guy with that resume, but he won't lead us to a premiership this year, next year, and if he does the year after he will be one of our greats. Cogger is 6 months younger and even less experienced.

Having seen Hodko go really well behind a pack that is holding their own in reserve grade last week, I haven't given up on Hodko being a factor next year.
He needs a partner who will do 80% of the kicking and probably take the senior role too.
Most halves look pretty bad behind a beaten pack, and Hodko is no different.

Hodko is done. 2 try assists and 1 line break assist in 7 games. Refuses to kick or take on the line.
Feeney had 2 try assists and 3 line break assists in the Panthers game.

Apart from Cronk there's no good ones on the market, Maloney is still 18 months away from being off contract .....

Yeah after Cronk it falls away steeply to Tyrone, McCrone and Jeff Robson...

If Cronk bombs out Mooney should have a 3 year $4m offer in front of Ash Taylor on November 1.

Interesting question that raises slots.

As we are owned by Turdburg and company, I wonder who is making the running for our recruitment and deciding on what a top end price is for a p layer, and deciding who we might pay more for. If it is the NRL I don't think we will recruit very much at all until we are sold or the license sold to Ipswich or wherever.

I find it difficult to excuse a half that doesn't try, even when we start a set from the opposition 40, or even 20. Forwards are out of the game mostly at that point, yet time and again he just passed it along to the player next to him with no interest in doing anything creative with the ball, or at the end of the set he went missing when it came time to put in an attacking kick.

Our current SOO half, preferring a 20 year old rookie take the role of primary kicker and primary halfback.

in just a few games Feeney has made him look ordinary. Feeney for gods sake!

Hodko was up for try of the week in round 10 of reserve grade - a length of the field try - started and finished by Hodko, with some very good work by Robson and Hughes in between.

Hodkinson started nothing. Done his typical pass along to the next player and see if they can do something with it in which they did. All he did was back up and score an easy try. Something I could do easily also. Try of the week pffffttttt.

Would you be happy for the Broncos to throw lots of money at Ponga next year?

Hahaha well put,
Its funny as we are not actually allowed to contact Maloney in any way atm... dont be suprised if we get the first fine for breaching the code of conduct regarding contracts.

We are able to approach the club though, not hard to ask the question and then leak to the media what we are willing to pay etc. Said player would catch wind of it pretty quick.

And then what? He has a contract to play with the sharks in 2018. Why are they going to let him walk.

Im just saying there are ways around this whole not approaching contracted players business. As an example we approach the sharks stating our interest in maloney (lets assume they have 1mil free and maloney is on 400k for arguments sake) all of a sudden cronk at 1.4mil becomes an option for them. (Not saying they are interested or would shift maloney for cronk but you get what im trying to say) all of a sudden maloney is free to explore his options as they would say.

Although his contracted and by the rules we can not approach him this does not mean that we wont... the nrl let these rules slide a long time ago and ynless we becomethe wipping boy for another rule others can walk over it is fair game.

From my understanding jimmy is on 500k next yr and imo his a 800k+ player... so offering him 900k and see what happens.
At the very leastthe sharks will need to pull something out of there pocket to keep him and loose someone else we could benefit from
