This is a game we could win and win well.
Panthers have been terrible since they belted us and only beat the warriors due to them being 2 different teams in each half of footy.

22-16 knights

2 wins in a row could possibly be on the cards. we can definately win as penrith have been horrible.

plus i've got a carton of beer on it with a penrith supporter at work

Dare we dream for two in a row.

If Penrith didn't jag that win last week, we would have been equal last.

Well I would not say the Pennies were terrible in the second half last week, but the WORRIERS ON THE OTHER HAND WERE ATROCIOUS.

Only word for them leading 28-6 or whatever it was.

Stone in for Fitzgibbon, who is out of the 21 (possibly injured)
Barnett is on the bench for Randell (named at 19)
Those are the only changes to the 17 that started last week.
King and Tupou keep their spots.

Wasn't fitzgibbon cleared of Injury?

This is one of the first games in a long time I can say I'm going into and feeling like we have a chance, Penrith have been absolutely woeful since we last met, we have a homeground advantage and the boys will be in good spirits after a convincing win over the Raiders. Big chance for us to go 2 in a row and equal the Panthers on competition points.

My prediction:

Knights 26
Panthers 24
FTS Waqa Blake
LTS Dane Gagai
MOTM Peter Mata'utia

Look out for Joe Wardle and Ken Sio to exploit Penrith's left edge defence, where they have leaked 13 tries in total this season, don't be surprised if Cleary is found out by Feeney playing short to Wardle and Stone on the right.

NRL community unites for Beanie for Brain Cancer Round

Wed 17 May, 2017, 9:00am
Media Release, NRL

The NRL community stands united alongside Channel Nine, Fox League, Macquarie Radio Network and the Mark Hughes Foundation to highlight another important cause this week, in support of ‘Beanie for Brain Cancer’ round (Round 11).

The round is the concept of NRL Footy Show and Nine NRL Executive Producer Matt Callander, who was diagnosed with brain cancer in 2016.

NRL CEO Todd Greenberg said there was no hesitation in supporting Matt and all those affected by brain cancer when the idea was first raised.

"Matt is very much part of our rugby league family and has been fighting valiantly over the past year against this aggressive form of cancer," Mr Greenberg said.

"I have no doubt that our players and our fans will rally to provide greater awareness for more financial support and research of brain cancer."

All funds raised throughout the round will go to the Mark Hughes Foundation, with the aim to raise a minimum of $500,000 to fund a three-year research fellowship in another brain cancer research area.

"This is about something much bigger than rugby league and the more awareness we can create, the closer we will edge towards additional research and hopefully in the not too distant future, we will uncover a way to fight this cancer and other cancers," Greenberg said.

NRL and Channel Nine partner Sportsbet are one of many to commit to donating, with $1,000 for every try scored across Round 11.

Across Round 10, there were 69 tries scored – the most since Round 25, 2015 (71).

Brain Cancer kills more children than any other disease and more adults under 40 than any other cancer.

To donate and for more details, including a range of auction items to bid on, head to markhughesfoundation.com.au

Fans can also purchase beanies at the following matches throughout Round 11 (18-21 May):

Sharks vs. Cowboys (Southern Cross Group Stadium)

Broncos vs. Tigers (Suncorp Stadium)

Eels vs. Raiders (ANZ Stadium)

Knights vs. Panthers (McDonald Jones Stadium)

Bulldogs vs. Roosters (ANZ Stadium)

Hughes' positive approach changing lives

Thu 18 May, 2017, 6:00am
Big League

It's as a confronting a diagnosis as any person can receive but as he lay in a hospital bed following his initial surgery to remove a high-grade tumour from his brain, Mark Hughes vowed to help others.

One of the most popular players to ever pull on a Knights jersey, Hughes had a decorated career that included three Origin appearances for New South Wales before two days of headaches in June 2013 saw him seek help and the terrifying news that he had brain cancer.

This weekend the NRL community is uniting in support of the Mark Hughes Foundation's 'Beanies for Brain Cancer' campaign that endeavours to raise money for the most under-researched and under-funded type of cancer.

Writing in this week's issue of Big League, Hughes's former teammate at the Knights Danny Buderus said that he struggled to comprehend what was ahead of his great mate when he was first told but has been inspired by what he has achieved in the three years since.

"As we all began to come to grips with what was happening, Mark had surgery to remove his high-grade tumour and began the rest of his treatment and recovery," Buderus recalls.

"He knew he had a chance to turn this life-changing event into a positive and decided from his recovery bed to form the Mark Hughes Foundation.

"Three years on, it’s amazing to see how far they’ve come.

"My mate from Kurri Kurri – with some help from his friends – has raised over $2 million for brain cancer research and won’t stop there.

"There is now a brain cancer care coordinator in the Hunter New England area which is being used as an example to try and get more implemented around the country. There are plenty of national research projects happening too.

"As much I wish there was no need for MHF, I couldn’t be prouder."

As is the way among rugby league people, Hughes found overwhelming support during such a difficult time, friends, teammates and family queuing up to drive him from Newcastle to the Central Coast every day for treatment.

"The next part of the treatment was trips to the Central Coast every day for six weeks for his radiation therapy," says Buderus.

"There was a long line of mates waiting to drive him every day and help him in any way they could.

"One of them was the inspirational Paul ‘Chief’ Harragon, who was already convinced Mark was going to beat this thing and do something special.

"With Mark’s supportive wife Kiz, a few friends and family, they kicked off with their first local fundraiser in 2014 – a Beanie for Brain Cancer awareness campaign."

This weekend the NRL and their many broadcast partners across all platforms will pledge their support to the dedicated Beanies for Brain Cancer round that was the idea of Channel Nine NRL Executive Producer Matt Callander who was himself diagnosed with brain cancer in 2016.

The hope is that more than $500,000 will be raised over the course of Rd 11 with fans able to donate through www.markhughesfoundation.com.au or by buying a beanie at the ground at Sharks v Cowboys, Broncos v Wests Tigers, Eels v Raiders, Knights v Panthers and Bulldogs v Roosters.

Not sure if this has been mentioned but just read that brown has dropped Ross to play cup over the contract issue. Elliot moves to wing.

Really?
Well done Brown... u are already on the nose with a massive amount of fans and members... to then play hard ball with the 2 biggest names in the team? U are digging ur own grave champ.

Harsh price to pay but I think Brown has made the right call you can't hold the club to ransom on the press, had it just been the mole article this would have been the wrong call but free the herald article Brown had no choice.

This weekend the nib Newcastle Knights encourage supporters to buy a beanie or wear one to Sunday’s game for the Mark Hughes Foundation Beanie for Brain Cancer Round.

Knights Old Boy Mark Hughes was diagnosed with brain cancer in July 2013, and set up the Foundation to help increase research funding for the disease.

Astoundingly, brain cancer kills more children than any other disease and kills more people under 40 in Australia than any other cancer.

All funds raised from the NRL’s Beanie for Brain Cancer Round will be donated to the Mark Hughes Foundation to help find a cure, create awareness and support brain cancer patients and their families.

Knights players, who will run out at McDonald Jones Stadium wearing beanies on Sunday, know how important the cause is.

“Mark Hughes has been a big part of this Club and to raise as much awareness as we can for brain cancer is special,” said halfback Jaelen Feeney.

“We need to buy a beanie or wear one to promote it as much as we can."

So be sure to buy a beanie or wear your own for the Knights clash against the Penrith Panthers this Sunday to help tackle brain cancer together.

He openly spoke about his contract and made it seem like we were in the wrong. As much as I hate seeing my favourite player dropped and potentially harming our chances of going back to back Browny made the right call. No one is bigger than the club.
