@Ethan

His contributions in the sharks team for 2016 is 85m 25tks 1.4missed a game.
With fifita making 160m Gallen making 190m Graham making 140m his job is made much easier there then here.

Tbh Mataora would do the same job just with 100 less nrl games.
So yeah he mite be good to have on the roster but for anything over 150k its a waste of funds imo.

Ohh and that is Priors best nrl season to date.

Prior was the second best player in last year's Grand Final and their best in the semi against Canberra. If he starts playing like that week in and week out he'd be worth a bit of coin.

That's where he has to get too, but being on the wrong side of 30 will not help that one bit. Its a no from me( Simon Cowell voice)

Yeah if he's even more consistent this year he'd definitely be worth it, an effective bench role would be preferable. But damn, I really don't want us to throw the book at him just because we have gone cold on Scott (or so it seems). Hopefully the Mooney connect can get us somewhere in the right price range.

Being on the wrong side of 30 isn't a bad thing at all, especially for a front rower. The average age of our team is around like 22 or so, he'd provide invaluable experience to the kids and it's obvious he's playing the best footy of his career. I see him being a Kostjasyn type signing, not very popular at first but will fit into our pack seamlessly and won't disappoint imo.

He may not have been 1st, 2nd or 3rd best on the field, but you can't deny he did play a great part in the team achieving their goal.

I saw on 7 News tonight that we're offering Bird about $900k per season and he's already visited Newcastle and the club facilities. Sharks were said to be offering $200k or so less IIRC.

I don't think he's worth it. I think he's a better version of a Josh Reynolds style player, not heaps skillful but makes things happen through sheer will & want. 1 mil is a lot of money for what he brings but I guess we have to pay overs to get the ball rolling & get some name players in the team. If we get him we better hope Lamb takes up that organizing role well, because Bird won't bring anything apart from running.

This is why I reckon he'd be an excellent buy for us, though. The guy just loves to win and most importantly he seems to make things happen and doesn't shy away in big games. Had a blinder in last years GF with a broken arm which showed heaps of ticker.

I personally reckon he's worth good coin and his attitude and hunger to win would suit our club perfectly. As long as Ponga, Levi and Lamb continue to develop well then Bird should fit in at 6 and he can just run and cause havoc with a possible future in the backrow one day.

I want him here. 900k will be approx 8% of next year's salary cap depending on where it ends up. That is a very competitive price imo, considering Mullo and Gids took up approx 25% of our cap between them during their careers. 900 is the new 550 if you do the numbers (% increase)

Bird is the magic man. He's the guy who can mature into a champion, game winning backrower. He is in the mould of Greg Bird, who despite his character, was the best backrower in NSW when he left the NRL imo

My only reservation lies in his preferred position as a 5/8th. Of course, we would expect Lamb moves to 7, but I am genuinely concerned that if we lose Hodko we may lose something we didn't know we had, direction.

Hodko does a lot that goes unseen, and I reckon it's fair to say Lamb is an unknown quantity when it comes to how well he steers a ship. Yes he kicks well, but thats a small portion of it. The Bulldogs have discovered this the hard way....
