with the Phythian injury i wonder if Knights will go for a backline player?

We need a classy centre for next year, so I'd hope we are targeting one nonetheless

We have the fullback. All we need is another classy back and our backline will look very competitive

The good news is, we have the money for marquee signings like this.
We just have to be patient and keep looking for the right signing.
I'd prefer someone on the right side of 30 to be honest.

I would throw the sink at Aaron Woods. The Tigers wont be able to hang on to all of their " big 4 " . I'd pay a damn sight more for him than Scott.

BIRD IS THE WORD

What’s the secret to landing Jack Bird’s signature?

It’s all in the position.

That’s why Newcastle are still hopeful they can land Bird.

So where does he fit into the mix?

He’s currently playing centre but the Knights view Bird as a ball playing lock or five-eighth.

They’ve told him that too.

Bird has met with Knights officials and will ramp up talks in the next week or so.

If Bird was to join the Knights he would be given the license to play his natural game.

Woods is a giant pillow. Nothing more than a stats man in my opinion.

Not to argue with ya mate, but that "pillow" has carried a team from prop since he was 21yrs old and was head and shoulders above any prop in the 4 nations.

As much as i would of been happy to get scott id take woods over him any day.
2yrs ago different story.

With pyth going down and us having some free cash this yr hypothetically under the nrl rules are we able to offer the cowboys a transfer fee for ponga this year. Not saying we should or shouldnt but is that allowed? if so it may be the way to get him here this year.

Money that we cant use next season that idea has merit ..Now Pythian's gone why not try at least . Ponga's not being picked for 1st grade and we could use him ....Just my opinion but I think by next season if all goes well with his injury you wont be able to keep Pythian out of the side The kids a talent ...

Now that the Cows have revealed their true intentions for Ponga this season, Kalyn and his management would have a strong case for his release.

They pretended as though they would treat him fairly, which was never a possibility given he was leaving, and they showed their cards on the first run where they selected Bowen over Ponga haha

But hey, I don't blame them. They need to look to their future not his/ours. And so should we expect that they will do the same with Gela-Mosby?

The ONLY reason they kept Ponga was to use his an injury backup to Coote.. nothing more. And they deliberately lied to him about how they intended to use him, which isn't according to merit, and therefore a case can be made today that couldn't be made before the season started

KNIGHTS’ NEXT TARGET

First it was Jack Bird and now Newcastle have their eye on another premiership winner with the red and blue targeting Matt Prior.

While the Sharks have tabled the forward a new deal to keep him in the Shire, Market Watch can reveal the Knights have reached out to Prior.

They have identified the forward as an ideal candidate to join Matt Scott and the Saifiti twins in the engine room next season.

The news comes as the Knights complete a three-year extension for lock Mitch Barnett.

With Barnett all but locked in long-term, discussions with Scott can’t go any further until the Cowboys skipper and his family tour the town and club facilities.

Regardless of what Scott decides, the Sharks will have to contend with the Knights for Prior.

While the Knights haven’t talked terms or figures, Market Watch can reveal the club would be willing to make the 29-year-old a three year offer, which would see his contract expire at the age of 33.

It’s understood Cronulla have tabled Prior an offer but it’s far from being finalised.

Nearing 200 NRL games, Prior made his debut for St George Illawarra in 2008 before linking with Cronulla in 2014.

A three-year-deal would be the most security Prior has had since he extended for the same length following his first premiership, which he won with the Dragons in 2010.

Not a fan of Prior. He had one great season as a prop, previous to that he hit the ball up like Houston

If it's a cheap deal (under 400k) I would be happy with it
