2015 VB NSW Cup / 2015 State Championship

We weren't good enough, simple as that.... I think we'd have lost anyway if things went our way, due to the slow start, though some of the rulings in this game have really turned me off rugby league. It really has changed my decision in weather I should get a family membership next year or not. That'll do me for today, it may aswell be flag footy, I'll take the kids to Newcastle next year for their novelty, but otherwise, rugby league can go get ****ed for me, even afl is tougher.

We were the better team in that 2nd half... I really hate saying it, but the QLD ref definately didn't help us.

Yeah I thought we were on top until the non-send off and the non-try and had been for the entire second half.

Bit of a worry that Ndaira is the most impressive dummy half at the club!

At least we made a fight of it, and with any kind of luck we would have won.
Very impressed with Tofilau. Pity he is so small. He is a tough little guy in his first year with us and can still play NYC next year. He came to us with a reputation as a try scorer, setting records in NZ. I'd like to see him find that again next year - he hasn't scored enough tries.
Sironen is in the best form since he got here. I hope he gets a second tier contract for next year and keeps improving.

We had some luck through the finals and at least once won against a better side, and i thought in this game we had no luck and were beaten by a worse side. If we played them again next week I think we'd be used to their tricks and win easily.

I thought Levi played pretty well when he came back on... I agree, George was having a great game though.

I just put the king hit on our instagram for anyone who missed it. Can't see how Mamo did anything wrong, he was running back into position, three guys pushed him, then held him still while the fourth guy came in and knocked him out.

Too many errors in the first half but was good to see us grind our way back with some physicality. First time seeing a full Ipswich game, they were impressive, looked vulnerable at times. Even though I didn't wanna see them come here, hopefully some club takes a punt on them, would be very interesting to see them try to adapt to NRL. Thought most of our players went alright, Sironen deserves a contract for next year.

Mamo seemed to be in a fair bit of rubbish all game and I'd say how that started. That is a Shocking act from that single player. You can't blanket the team for a single player, he should get 10 weeks

That's what I thought happened, he ran back, a guy elbowed him in the face & then it breaks out. Commentators acting like Mamo started it. Although I don't buy into the stupid commentators hate us argument, according to supporters in every club, every commentator & ref hates them. In particular the way Gus talks about Sunday games in Newcastle & the Newcastle crowd, he obviously doesn't hate the club, just called it as he saw it. Mamo was chatting away with opposition & niggling with them though, hopefully he cuts back on it a little. And hopefully the guy who dog shotted him gets suspended for months, that type of stuff would be serious assault if it was on the streets & not on a football field.

Saifiti was a little bit disappointing in the last few games, but obviously he has a lot of improvement in him.

Koopu keeps improving and deserves a shot.

Holland was very quiet, but he was playing injured.

Levi tried, but I think all the long minutes and hard games of the last 6 weeks caught up with him a bit. Still, great experience for him.

Fitzgibbon also looked like he was pretty tired after a long final series, but that will do him good too.

I think all the young guys have played well and well above there previous form for 5 or 6 weeks, and they can only be better players for it.

I wasn't as blown away by the Jets style of play as I'd hoped to be. The "allowing and encouraging fast opposition play the balls" didn't happen at all, and they wrestled as well, which reports said they didn't.

Attack was like a mid to late 90s side, plenty of side to side, plenty of offloads and lots of chucking it around ... but in saying that, all their tries just came from strong one out runs.

Their short kick offs were the most lethal aspect, but I'd like to see NRL sides attack like that a lot more. Nothing new though.

I do agree in general Mamo should get the niggle out of his game. In no way blaming him for the incident, but it's best to ignore pushes like that.

The guy that hit Mamo said he was only defending his team mate and goes on about how he's won a premiership and how he's going to be playing international footy for Scotland next week and what a dream it is for him. If he doesn't get a few games suspension for that at the very least, the game really has lost the plot. Teach the smug ***** a lesson. Also Chris Walker says that Mamo deserved it and Mamo should be charged for headbutting that guy's fist... Yeah Jake is a niggler but no player deserves to be held up and king hit from the blind side and knocked out while out on the field like that. It was thuggery and would be an assault charge anywhere else. The ****head was even squaring up to swing on our other players after dog shotting Mamo.

Wake up guys. Do you think GF footie is fair dinkum? Why do you think a Qld ref was appointed with all those baying red necks in the stands?

There will be no progress in the NRL whilst Smith holds the chair.

The Knights say Mamo suffered a concussion, has been assessed and is recovering with rest at home.

Strange sort of game this one. Ipswich' sideways attack did hurt us a few times early but once we got into the swing of the game it wasn't that damaging. Few of our boys like Carlos looked a bit flat which is understandable I guess given all the pressure footy they've played. A good effort overall but Ipswich deserved to win.

As as for the king hit, what else can be said? Low act that should have been sent off. Haven't seen anything like that at that level since Danny Williams on Mark O'Neill over a decade ago, and he got 18 weeks. Hope Mamo is ok but also hope he tones down the niggling a bit because it seemed to distract him and the team a bit. Interesting that Mamo doesn't do any of that stuff in first grade but he goes back to reserves and goes on with it a bit. Hopefully next year he can harness his enthusiasm into just the footy rather than any rubbish.

Ultimately though, this game was a bit of a gimmick game. The important thing was winning the comp they played in all year, and they did which was great. Awesome season from all the boys and whilst they didn't get the cherry on top, it was still a great success for the club. Hopefully now some of these boys who haven't had NRL experience can really knock on the door now.

Also - Chris Walker saying Mamo deserved to be hit for 'dog shotting' an Ipswich player? Once a Brisbane ****head, always a Brisbane ****head.

Myself think tapine should have been second row needed to be in play more club not doing anything to show confidence in him play houston ahead of him in 1st grade them center in nsw waste of his talent

The guy who hit Mamo said he did it because he saw Mamo cheap shot Matt Parcell, pretty sure Mamo was just running into line before getting elbowed in the head by a guy, then pushed by 2 others before Mamo started punching back.

It's Lantry putting him there as a fill in because we have no one else & Tapine is versatile enough to do it. It's got nothing to do with the club & their lack of confidence in him? Reading way too much into that I think. And he still had a great game, he'll be one of our first 17 without a doubt, Brown said he's a fan & wants to give young guys an opportunity. If he picks Houston I will cry.

"Meanwhile, Ipswich forward Billy McConnachie has been charged with grade two contrary conduct for his involvement in a melee during the Jets’ win over the Newcastle Knights in the State Championship."

How many weeks is that??

Apparently throwing a water bottle gets you the same charge?

Grade 2 Contrary Conduct is 225 points

Early Guilty plea and he will miss 1 week unless he has loading which may bump it up to 2 weeks

In hindsight, maybe Carlos to the centers and Ndaira staying in the halves might have been the better option.
