When can we re-sign Houston?

Soon i would hope hes a quality player and if he gets found not guilty i think the knights owe it to him to re-sign him

Simple answer... if found not guilty we could re-sign him. But not sure if the club would welcome him back.

Sticky situation.

id love to resign him, at the end of the day he may be found not guilty...therefore has done nothing wrong but the stigma attached to those involved with the police...its hard to say if the club and its fans will ever support him again.

It was mentioned earlier, when his court case was finished and if Knights welcomed him back, but like -AK- said ''if he's found not guilty we can, but it's a sticky situation''.

nothing tricky about it. If hes guilty we won't if hes innocent we should. Any fan or member of the club who wont support him if he's found not guilty is a disgrace. We have a legal system for a reason...basically so fat uneducated idiots in armchairs don't get to make decisions about peoples lives. If he was not guilty and wants to play for us I'd be disgusted with the club if they didnt welcome him back

Newcastle didn't sack him, he left off his own bat. That was his choice so as not to drag Newcastle's name through the mud. If he is found not-guilty and is willing to come back to the NRL, I don't see why we shouldn't re-sign him. If we don't, someone else will.

theres an article today in the newy herald that said we'd welcome him back, it also said that he has continued training as well as working as a laborer.
so wed be fit as by the sounds of it!

Houston may yet return to Knights

- NEWCASTLE have declared they would move to re-sign Chris Houston if the former Knights forward was cleared of drug supplying charges.

- The 25-year-old offered his resignation to the Knights in March. He is working as a labourer but continues to train in the hope his name is cleared.

- Newcastle chairman Rob Tew said yesterday Houston - who was 18th man for NSW in Origin III last year - could be back on the Knights roster if he was found innocent.

- "If he was found not guilty and indeed had no case to answer we would think about getting him back very seriously," Tew said. SMH

Great player but we just have to be patient and wait for it to go through the legal channels. Be assured though if Newcastle have the money Chris will jump at the chance to redeam himself to the fans, ideal replacement for Steve Simpson aswell.

Boy, imagine the forward rotation next year if Houston comes back.

Even if he's found guilty and receives a non-custodial sentence why shouldn't the club re-sign him?

He won't be the first player that has had this or similar problems........... And let's face it, if the club takes a holier than thou attitude and doesn't sign him, another club certainly will.....The roosters would be on him like a seagull on a hot chip.......... Smith knows how good he is.......... Tod Carney is a perfect example of a superb player being cast off and picked up by another club. How good is he going?

This club has a VERY, VERY poor record when it comes to signing quality players so why would they knock back a fantastic player like Houston who is already in town and ready to play?

Houston may have done a dumb thing but he is not stupid........... Let's not throw the baby out with the bathwater folks!:doubt:

Mmmm, if we did resign Houston it would bring a lot bad publicity towards the club IMO. I would be all for bringing him back IF he is proven not guilty though.

Like Corunetes said, Smith and the Politis would pounce on Houston like a seagull on a hot chip if we don't make a move, Houston would do a Todd Carney on us with the Rorters and he would come back to haunt us.

Who cares if we get some negative publicity, it won't be the first or last time.............. this club needs to become more ruthless .............having said that, the spin would have to be that we would be signing a player who has accepted his sentence and should be able to get on with his life..............

just because he left us doesn't mean he accepted his sentence. He said he left because he didnt want to drag his mates and the club through the negative publicity. As far as we know he may be completely innocent?

IMO, if he is found not guilty, I would love to see him back playing footy for us.

Sorry to disagree, but Taufua has been the best rise to the top story i have seen in footy. The bloke dead set just hammers away. And not to mention he has been playing out of position most of the time too!

Lets not throw away Taufua for someone else. I'd rate him over Cross, Kaf and a one year out of it Houston. The bloke has done so much for us. And when he first came would have been on a contract less than Jr. Sau's $10,000 one. He has been another player made into diamonds by Smithy.

ID be all for getting him back
No one else seems to want to join plus he/ if in form of old= new steve
